FAQ
Q: What image formats are supported?
A: Input formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, TGA, QOI, HEIC. Output formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, TGA, QOI (HEIC output not supported).
Q: What is HEIC format?
A: HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default image format used by Apple devices (iPhone, iPad), offering high compression but limited compatibility. This tool can convert HEIC to other common formats for viewing on Windows, Android, and other devices.
Q: Will conversion lose image quality?
A: Converting to PNG format is lossless with no quality loss. Converting to lossy formats like JPG, WebP, or AVIF will result in some quality loss, but this tool uses high-quality parameters for good visual results. For precise quality control, we recommend using our image compression tool.
Q: Why are AVIF and GIF conversions slow?
A: AVIF is the latest image format with complex encoding algorithms requiring more computation time. GIF format requires color quantization (256-color limit) and frame processing, which is also time-consuming. This is normal behavior; please wait patiently for conversion to complete.
Q: Can converted files be used commercially?
A: Yes. This tool only performs format conversion without modifying image content or adding watermarks. Copyright of converted files belongs to the original image owner, and you can use them according to the original image's licensing terms.
Q: When will batch conversion be available?
A: We are developing batch conversion functionality, expected to be released in a future version. You will then be able to upload multiple images at once and convert them to a specified format in batch.
Use Cases
Web Development
Preparing image assets for websites, requiring optimized loading speed while maintaining quality. Modern browsers recommend WebP format, while scenarios requiring high compatibility use JPG/PNG.
- Target format: WebP (modern browsers) or JPG (compatibility priority)
- Use PNG or WebP for transparent backgrounds
- Use PNG or SVG for icons and logos
Apple Device Photo Sharing
Photos taken on iPhone/iPad are in HEIC format by default, which cannot be directly viewed on Windows or Android devices. Converting to JPG ensures cross-platform compatibility.
- Target format: JPG
- Suitable for sharing on social media and sending via email
- Choose PNG to preserve highest quality
Icon and Logo Creation
Creating icons for applications and websites, requiring transparency support while maintaining clarity. PNG is the most common choice, while ICO format is used for website favicons.
- Target format: PNG (general) or ICO (website favicon)
- Maintain transparent background
- Recommended sizes: 16x16, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128
Game Development
Preparing textures and sprites for games, requiring appropriate format selection based on game engine requirements. TGA and BMP are commonly used in game development, while QOI is an emerging fast format.
- Target format: TGA, BMP, PNG, or QOI
- Choose format based on game engine documentation
- Note transparency channel support
Format Selection Guide
- Web usage: WebP > JPG/PNG (compatibility consideration)
- Transparent background: PNG > WebP > GIF
- Smallest file size: AVIF > WebP > JPG
- Best compatibility: JPG > PNG > GIF
- Special purposes: ICO (website favicon), TGA (game development), HEIC→JPG (cross-platform sharing)
